Larry Rifkin: What was it like for you and your team to have to work on a project like this?

Jay Brotman: It certainly was different, very very different than any project we’ve ever approached. It was very important not only to the architecture and design of the building in a fashion that we thought was helpful, useful, and safe obviously for the future generations, but we knew we also had to work with the community and help them through this awful crisis that they’ve faced. We knew that our skills as architects working with the communities, working with committees would have to be at the top highest level in order to make this a successful project.
