Growing up in Dallas, Jay spent much of his youth dreaming up complex structures to build from model kits he would buy whenever the opportunity arose. This helped inform his fascination for design early in life, and has resulted in a thought-provoking approach to architecture that inspires his clients and colleagues alike. Jay’s ability to orchestrate a highly collaborative design process creates spaces that are functionally responsive and contextually sensitive including innovative research facilities, campus transformations and high-performance buildings.

Who knew model kits could lead to this?

Leaving Texas behind, Jay was eager to embrace new experiences and signed on with Svigals + Partners in 1987. The walkable, small city’s charm and nearby shoreline won over the Brotmans – he recognized it as a remarkable place where he could make meaningful contributions to challenging projects.

Jay’s inherent leadership skills helps to ensure that Svigals + Partners constantly renews itself as a state-of-the-art environment for the development world-class architecture and design. He dedicates his energy to finding the right balance of strategic and creative endeavors, cultivating client relationships, and mentoring a highly productive team. Does he miss Texas? Only when the snow is 2 feet high.
