Katelyn Chapin, AIA

Katelyn’s childhood playtime always seemed to involve building. Indoors she’d create elaborate houses for her dolls from wooden blocks and Legos. Outdoors she’d spend her winters carving igloos from snow piled high by plows, and her summers with friends in the woods creating villages outlined with rocks, branches, and trees. The spaces she created were always clearly defined, too: living room, bedroom, kitchen…even a garage and driveway.

So it’s no surprise that Katelyn found her way to architecture, and perhaps even less surprising that her favorite tasks involve programming and construction administration. A natural collaborator, Katelyn’s background in art and gift of communication make her invaluable to Svigals + Partners’ process of client engagement, facilitating discussion and documenting the design process.

Katelyn now sees herself as an “ambassador for the profession,” which drives her beyond her aptitude for client interaction into mentoring. Within the office she’s known for encouraging interns to participate in networking events, and as a Kids Build coordinator she relishes working with school-age children who show an interest in architecture.
